LaserBond National Apprenticeship Program: Building the Next Generation of Surface Engineers
At LaserBond, we see apprenticeships as more than just training – they’re an investment in our future. With over 30 years of experience in engineering and manufacturing, we know that technical skills are only part of the equation. Developing emotionally intelligent, well-rounded professionals is central to how we train and support our apprentices.

Our program is designed to combine hands-on experience with structured learning. Apprentices receive ongoing mentorship, access to cutting-edge equipment, and support from a team of dedicated leaders, tradespeople, and training organisations. We regularly host monthly “Theme of the Month Toolbox Talks” to discuss workplace topics, safety, personal development, and process improvements – all in a collaborative, supportive environment.
LaserBond collaborates closely with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), including Victoria University Polytechnic TAFE, Gimbal Training Group, and others, to align formal qualifications with real-world job training. We also host site visits for training partners, ensuring alignment between training plans and workplace requirements.
We believe in nurturing talent from the ground up. Many of our current leaders – including Workshop Managers – began their careers as apprentices with us. This is a testament to our strong internal career pathways and commitment to promoting from within.

Other key features of our apprenticeship and workforce development program include:
- Mentorship and Emotional Intelligence Development
- Customised Learning & Development Plans supported by digital tools
- Ongoing Lean Manufacturing Training across all facilities
- Partnerships with Local Schools for work experience and early career engagement
- Leadership and Management Qualifications offered to emerging leaders
- Employee Engagement Surveys to guide ongoing improvement and open communication
We’re proud to create a workplace where apprentices are valued, supported, and encouraged to grow – professionally and personally.
